About Terriwood

Tom & Karin Godwin established Terriwood in 1984 with the purchase of their foundation bitch Kiku's Bouncing Bonnie.  "Bonnie" became an American and Canadian Champion and Top Producer in the breed with 11 AKC Champions from 13 puppies.  Two of her sons, littermates, Am/Can Ch Terriwood's Best Dressed and Am/Can Ch Terriwood's Artful Dresser went on to become all breed Best In Show Winners, owner handled.

The Godwin's are proud to have bred or owned 62 Cairn Terrier champions, all having been owner/handled.   Their star performance was being Breeder/Owner/Handlers of Am/Can Ch Terriwood's Black Tie, a "Pedigree Award", (annual top dog in it's breed), winner for four consecutive years 1995-1998 a record unsurpassed by any other Cairn Terrier.  "Tyler" was chosen by Kal Kan Pedigree to represent the Cairn Terrier breed on the cover of it's magazine, "Pedigree Breeder Forum", a magazine with wide circulation to breeders, exhibitors and veterinarians.  More recently Tyler's great grandson Ch Terriwood Grand Slam, "Casey" was honored by winning the Cairn Terrier Club Of America's National Specialty, in October 2005,  held in Philadelphia.  "Casey" was also ranked #1 cairn terrier in the U.S. in that year.

During the past fifteen years, Terriwood had five different dogs ranked in the breed Top Ten.  Four Terriwood stud dogs have the distinction of being "Top Producers" with two having over 20 champions to their credit.  The paternal ancestry of the Terriwood stud force standard bearer, Am/Can Ch Terriwood's Best Dressed represents a nineteenth generation of the top Cairn Terrier champion producing line in breed history.

As breeders Tom & Karin Godwin have been recognized six times as one of the annual Top
Ten breeders of Cairn Champions by the publication, "The Cairn Terrier in America".
Terriwood stud dogs and brood bitches have held top producing positions nine times in the last ten years.   Their breeding program was featured in Cairn Terrier breed column of the August 2007 issue of the"Gazette", the official magazine of the American Kennel Club.

Terriwood dogs have received over 18 Specialty Best In Show wins including the National
Specialty, the Roving National Specialty and the Canadian National Specialty.  They have been honored with numerous sweepstakes wins including Best In Sweepstakes and Best Puppy In Sweepstakes at the National Specialty held in Philadelphia each October.

Both Tom and Karin have judged several regional breed specialty shows including the
National Roving Specialty.  Designated by the CTCA as approved breed seminar presenters both Tom and Karin have been invited several times to give a comprehensive Cairn breed seminar at various AKC Judges Workshops.

Concerned both with the rich history of the Cairn breed and preserving it's finest traditions for the future, Tom currently serves as Vice President  for the Cairn Terrier Club of America.  In addition to being active members of the CTCA, the Godwin's are members of the Cairn Terrier Club of Northern California.  Locally in Washington State, Tom and Karin have mentored many new breeder/ hobbyists as well as initiating the formation of the northwest Cairn breed club in 1988 where Tom currently serves as President and  Karin as newsletter editor and webmaster.   Tom is also the president of he prestigious Seattle Kennel Club.

Focusing on a well-bred Cairn both in type and temperament the Terriwood breeding program is carefully planned and researched to produce top quality healthy dogs for both the show ring and as family companions.
